The Art Alliance is an association of artists and craftsmen in the western (Allegany County) area of Maryland. The Alliance also welcomes members from nearby West Virginia and Pennsylvania with the goal of supporting new and emerging artists and providing encouragement and technical support. Over 100 Alliance members currently contribute to a permanent art exhibit at Rocky Gap Lodge and Resort just east of Cumberland.

Western Maryland Gallery & Gift near Frostburg, MD, is the home studio-gallery of James C. Groves, who is noted for original oil paintings of large, highly detailed, grand-view landscapes. Groves is a contemporary practitioner of the "Grand Landscape," a manner of painting practiced by such 19th century American artists as Frederic Church, Albert Bierstadt, and Thomas Moran. He paints almost daily, grinding his own unique oils just before use. In addition, he has created limited edition offset lithographs since 1987. Thousands of his originals and prints have sold worldwide. At least sixty Groves originals are on display at Western Maryland Gallery & Gift.
