Americans for the Arts is a national organization working to ensure that every American has the opportunity to appreciate, value, and participate in all forms of the arts. Membership in the organization includes community-based arts organizations and individuals interested in creating a climate in which the arts can thrive. Membership is designed to link organizations and individuals to the information, networking, and professional growth opportunities that will help them achieve their goals.

The National Arts Program, established in 1982, is an annual exhibition where artists of all ages, backgrounds, and levels of talent display their work to the public. All works submitted according to the Rules of Exhibit are shown and then judged by a panel of prominent artists, educators, and cultural leaders. Cash prizes and continuing education scholarships are awarded. There are no charges to the artists or to the public.

Established as an independent agency of the federal government in 1965, the National Endowment for the Arts provides grants for arts projects and fellowships, develops public partnerships and international exchanges, conducts research, maintains a library, and produces publications pertaining to the arts.
